Recyclable materials collected by Green Dot Cyprus

Household packaging waste are packaging waste generated in households. These packages include a whole, all types of packaging materials (paper and cardboard, glass, metals, plastics, wood and small amounts of other materials). Larger quantities, however, these packages consist of the following materials:


(A) cartons and other paper
(B) glass bottles and jars
(C) plastic bottles, jars and membranes
(D) aluminum cans drink,
(E) preserved in metal containers.

Categories of selected household packaging at source (household)

Considering the need to collect good quality materials that can be recycled to the maximum extent possible, has decided to implement a system with three categories of packaging should be broken down into households and collected separately.

The three categories are as follows:

1. PMD category (Plastics, Metals and Drink Cartons): Plastic bottles, cans and jars from PET, PE and HDPE, metal packaging (aluminum and tin containers), and beverage type (tetrapak).

2. Paper Type: Dry packing cartons and cardboard boxes with newspapers, magazines, office paper and brochures.

3.Glass category: Glass bottles and jars and other glass containers of all colors.

These three categories of materials should be separate households from other solid waste and kept in separate temporary storage units (tanks house the bags) since the collection is unique and different frequencies.

In urban and suburban centers to collect paper and PMD (bag with different packaging type PMD) is made from house to house (kerbsitecollection), as with the other solid municipal waste today. Instead, the collection of glass about the system of the islets (bringsystem) where the citizen has to carry materials into predetermined locations where they have installed special bins for glass.

In tourist areas and in non-urban and suburban centers to collect all of the categories is done through the islands where citizens can carry all three types of materials collected by GREENDOT Cyprus and place them in appropriate bin.


The collection of all types is collected by contractors who are employed by the system through tendering procedures. Minimum required by the subcontractors are the relevant experience in similar projects and compliance with relevant laws and particularly the issue of authorization for the collection and transportation of waste of this type.



COLLECTION OF URBAN CENTERS AND suburban

Collection Class PMD

All packages in the category of PMD should be placed in special transparent bag PMDtis GREENDOT CYPRUS. The bags of PMD are available and can be bought from supermarkets in your area.

If you live in a house then the bag PMD collected from the sidewalk you. If you live in a house or building, but the trash is collected by a special big bucket near your home, you will notice that next to the trash that might have placed another bowl of blue, with markings GREENDOT CYPRUS. In this bowl, place only the bags of PMD. If not installed then the blue bin is collected from the pavement.

The collection frequency of PMD is once a week. The collection is made with ordinary garbage compression type press with low compression to allow further sorting of materials.

The days of collection of PMD is the same as the day of collection of paper and differs depending on where they live.

Collection Class Paper

The category of paper is collected separately from the homes of citizens (kerb site collection) with the PMD, but with ordinary garbage compression type presses.

Place recyclable materials outside of your home on the sidewalk, in a special brown bag paper which you can buy from supermarkets, or in a box, either mounted or package, or a plastic box that can be bought from supermarkets and DIY store , which once empty is returned for reuse.

The materials after collection, transferred to paper management unit to be selected by tender. The unit has the responsibility to manage materials and forward them for recycling in Cyprus or abroad.

The day of collection of the paper is the same as the day of collection of PMD and varies depending on where they live.

Class Glass Collection

The category of glass collected by itself and separated from other materials and is not collected from house to house, but collected by the system of the islets (bringsystem). For his collection, installed special bins bell at points selected along with local authorities.
